Summer Challenge Day 21 - Picnic

For this challenge I decided to go the same route that many others have gone, and paint a picnic blanket with ants because it's just too cute! I used white, red and black acrylic paint and a striper brush. I finished the look with NYC Extra Shiny Top Coat.

Summer Challenge Day 19 - Ice Cream Sundae

I'll have a fudge sundae please! No really! Doesn't that sound good? While my husband is going downstairs to get us some vanilla ice cream with fudge syrup, I have some ice cream sundae nail art to show you and it looks so yummy!

After painting my base colors, I used a white polish to make arches from the center to the tips. Then I used brown acrylic paint to make the dripping fudge and red acrylic paint to top of the fudge with a cherry. Yum!

Summer Challenge Day 16 - Ladybugs

Hi there!

Earlier this week I pulled out my old art tool box from college and found some fine sable brushes that I figured I could use for my nail art. Also in the box were some aluminum tubes of acrylic paint, but the tubes split at the creases and the paint dried so I bought some new acrylic paint. I have been wanting to try acrylic painting for the detailed nail art, instead of polish, because I thought it would be easier. I don't know about that though....I had a really hard time keeping my hand steady for this!

For my ladybug design, I drew inspiration from some scrapbook paper.

Here are some sketches of the early designs - I didn't even bother cleaning up. My family took a vote on which ones they liked and the blades of grass with ladybugs got one vote, and the abstract flowers and plant with ladybugs got two, so that's what I went with. Haha

Summer Challenge Day 14 - Gardening

Hi everyone!

Today's challenge is related to gardening. I was a little stumped on what to do for this challenge so I asked my son again what he thought of when I said the word gardening. I love asking him because he always has great ideas! He suggested doing something that is "in" the garden such as a garden gnome or a flamingo, just like the ones found in Gnomeo and Juliet. Another brilliant idea from my 11yo son. I think it would be amazing to "see" a garden gnome on a manicure but, since I do not have many nail art brushes, I wimped out and went with the flamingo.

So here is my garden flamingo surrounded by flowery bushes. Aside from his legs, I think he turned out pretty cute.

Go, Spurs, Go!

I am not much of a sports fanatic, but I recently received a request to do some basketball themed nails for a San Antonio Spurs fan. I was excited about the challenge and told her I'd get back to her with some samples. Here's what I came up with:

I thought these turned out pretty cool. Maybe I should start watching some of the games so I can sport some basketball themed nails. lol
